I can remember standing by the bridge. I heard the guns shot above our heads. “There’s a starman waiting in the sky,” they claimed and they didn’t want him to come down. I’ll admit, the stars look[ed] very different that day, and for good reason too. Then came the stars crashing down as the spaceman fell to earth. And the night turned cold and it rained, and we kissed as though nothing could fall, not knowing that what we believed to be a “god-awful small affair” would only lead to the earth’s demise.

I heard the news today, oh boy, we’ve got five years, that’s all we’ve got – it’s absolutely true, for the earth was really dying from the fallen spaceman who now wants to rule the world. He sits like a man but he smiles like a reptile; he’s got plans for everyone and there’s nothing I can do, for we’re nothing, and nothing can help us; for nothing can stop the man from the moon.

He’d like to come and meet us, and I know I can hear your heart beating as loud as thunder, and your silhouette is so stationary. We’re absolute beginners with eyes completely open but nervous all the same; we can sail over heartaches with an occasional dream, and battle for Britain, the only home we know.

Thinking about this causes my brain to hurt like a warehouse with no room to spare; I had to cram so many things to store everything in there, and yet nothing matters as the chaos is calling me. Though nothing could keep us together, we could steal time, just for one day, for as long as we’re together, the rest can go to hell. Though nothing will drive him away, we can beat him just for one day... we can be heroes and live through that hazy cosmic jive.

“Hallo Spaceboy,” I’ll say as he comes to me. “It’s confusing these days and this chaos is killing me. I want to be free...” But very wise is he; while fools and kings will meet, he’ll take the chance to sell this world, and we’ll fall to his feet. His cries of “I will be king,” will echo throughout the million dead-end streets. And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people with places and people to see, they’ll soon matter nothing at all.

He’s so simple minded, thinking one thought and one thought only, of how the earth will be his; we’ll be far away soon. He must’ve picked us as a target as he soared high about the moon, where Planet Earth is blue and he must’ve thought “I absolutely love you.” I can see it; it’s in the white’s of his eyes.

I still don’t know what I’m waiting for – maybe for a miracle from over land and sea, one to tell us that we can succeed. Maybe we’re lying to ourselves, because we know that we can never last, that soon we’ll disappear and so will everyone else... I never thought I’d need so many people.

So bye bye love, for time changes and I can’t trace time; for the starman – the spaceboy – has got other plans for us and the chaos is calling me. But Moondust will cover you because I know you want to be free. And bye bye spaceman, May God's love be with you.
FFM Day 28: Aka, David Bowie Day! Honestly, I had fun with this, but it was quite a bit of a challenge I must say, mostly only because I spent so much time researching songs and picking out quotes; but I quite enjoyed it.

Okay, so, I had to rack up points with this meaning that:
Each z = 1 point
Each David Bowie song title = 10 points
Each quote of more than three words from any David Bowie song = 10 points
Including a spaceman = 20 points
Your piece being 565 words long (“David Robert Jones”) = 50 points
Featuring an androgynous character = 50 points (This is basically narrator and their love interest since neither gender is stated for either one)
Featuring a man who fell to earth = 50 points
Featuring a man who sold the world. = 50 points (Okay, I mentioned him wanting to sell the world, but since hadn't previous sold it, I don't think I can count these points.

I believe, excluding the song titles and quotes, that should put me at 171 points (I only need 150 but oh well). Okay, but all the song titles and quotes equals... 610 points if I've counted correctly.

Wow, a combined total of 781 points. I went quite a bit overboard, but ah, I really like this, and I hope you do too~
