I awoke on a completely deserted island.

I was all alone in the middle of the ocean. Which ocean? I had no clue. I didn't know where I was, or what I was doing here, I just knew that if I stayed here any longer, terrible things would happen to me.

Nothing of my past seemed clear. It all just seemed like one giant blur. No matter how hard I tried remembering my family, my friends, my school; none of it seemed to come to me. All I remembered were two names. Roe, I knew was my name and the other one, I had no clue where I heard it.

Jason. The name echoed throughout my mind like a sonic boom. I didn't know who it belonged to, or how I knew it. Could it have been a name of a family member or friend? Well, it didn't matter. What did matter was that I needed to get off the island and fast.

I stood up quickly and I noticed I was wearing a dark purple sun dress trimmed with red. It also was daintily decorated with golden designs. My feet were barefoot and I had a golden necklace wrapped around my neck. I held it in my hands. There was a small golden plate on it. My name was engraved on the front, and Jason's name was engraved on the back of it. I tossed it back and forth in my hands. I tried so hard to remember everything, or even just a small memory, but I found nothing.

I started running along the shore of the island. Wet sand squished underneath my feet and my long blond hair flew behind me. I didn't know what I was looking for, maybe a boat, or some other source of transportation. Suddenly I heard a haunting voice.

Roe, It whispered. What was that? I wondered. Roe, it said louder. I was starting to worry a little. Roe! It yelled. I was panicking. I knew that voice wasn't something good.

Suddenly I heard a blood curdling scream. I felt a stabbing pain in my neck and I fell down into the sand. I could feel wet blood dripping down my neck. I started to lose the feeling in my neck, but I took off into the woods, hoping to find something to help me.

I ran past trees, vines, and other jungle/wood things that you could think of. My heart was racing, and adrenaline pumped through my body. I didn't know what I was running from; I just knew that it spelled bad news for me.

"Roe, it's alright! There's no need to run," a voice behind me shouted. I turned around. That was my first mistake. A man had been running after me. I stopped to let him catch up. That was my second mistake. I had thought that maybe he could help me with my neck, because blood was just pouring out from it since my heart rate was up. Blood had started staining my sundress.

"Roe I haven't seen you in forever!" Something wasn't right about his voice. It just didn't quite sound like a normal man's voice, raspier and hollow. He looked about in his young twenties. He had very pale skin and glossy black hair that when the light shinned on it, it looked like it had been soaked with grease.

He came behind me and put a bony hand on my shoulder. He held his grip tight. I froze dead in my tracks. I literally couldn't move a single bone in my body. His grip sent a chill down my spine. And it was so quiet in the forest that I could hear my breathing, but only mine. I realized that the man had no breath, he wasn't breathing at all.

He spoke again, but I was too concentrated on his voice to make out what he really said. All I knew was that his voice was the very same voice I had heard on the shore of the beach.

Something wasn't right about this man. I couldn't pick out what, but I had a horrible feeling about him.

"Remember me, Roe?" he asked.

The top of my torso started going numb. The numbness had started from the very same spot the man touched my shoulder with. He wrapped his other arm around my waist, and I still was frozen. He took the hand that was on my shoulder, and brought it in front of me. The skin seemed to have melted off of it, and it left the skeleton bones in its place.

I jumped back as soon as I saw the sight. His cold, bony hand danced its fingers across my cheek, and then went down to my neck. I felt a sharp pain in my neck, like he was driving a needle into my neck, but then it stopped, and the bleeding stopped too.

"You don't remember me, do you Roe?" He repeated.

I shook my head no. I had no recollection of this man.

He jerked his hand backwards from my neck, and the pain flooded back, along with the blood. I fell to the ground, my body weak and crumbled. I looked up to see the man standing over me.

Slowly, the man started to get engulfed with black smoke, starting with his legs and ending at his head. When the smoke left, the man had morphed into what looked like a grim reaper, with a boney, white skeleton face, and a black torn cloak. It was nearly transparent, and its deep black holes where its eyes should've been, stared at me intently. When its cloak blew in the wind, the wind tore through it sounding like screams of terror coming from voices of thousands of people.

He pinned me down I screamed my head off. The grim reaper chuckled at my terror. "Remember me, Roe?" The problem was that I did remember that skeleton, but I don't what from, or why. I even took the time to try to remember it, which was my third mistake. "Strike three, you're out." It whispered, enticingly. It grabbed my arms and lifted me into the air with its ice cold bony hands. It grabbed my throat with a free hand, and I started choking. I clawed at its hands to let me go, but his grip tightened and my lungs grew tighter and tighter, to the point where I couldn't breathe. I could feel his bones digging into my skin, and it felt like my skin was melting off.

Blood gushed from the spot where he held my neck, and I was feeling light headed. I couldn't think straight. My one clear thought was I am going to die here and now. Just go ahead and get it over with.

Several more demons appeared out of thin air and started encircling us, coming closer and closer. I could feel their power tugging me, trying to tear me apart by the seams. They started swirling around faster, creating a cloud of black wind, basically a giant tornado. I could feel the tornado trying to suck me, but for whatever reason the first demon held onto me.

My demon constricted my throat even more and black spots danced across my vision. Blood seeped from my throat, down my back and my torso and even down my legs. My hearing went deaf, and my whole body could only feel a sense of numbness. Soon we were engulfed into a black cloud of flames, and I blacked out.
Well, this is a story I made for another writing competion (It's actually the same one, but for a different round). And if you're wondering what I'm talking about, then check out my first story for the writing competion (I would add a link for it, but I'm still pretty new to dA so I don't know how to just yet) It's called The Good Thief. Check it out!

Also, you may be wondering why on the title it says "Contest Edition". That's because I am currently writing a story based on the same thing (Same characters, same setting, different plotline) that is much longer than this one. And after some editing, I will try to post it here.

So the breif idea for this story; well, in this version Roe, our main character wakes up on a deserted island, with no memory before then. She soon goes into the woods/jungle of the island and runs into a few Skeleton Demons (sometimes also know as spirits). From then, where does she go? Does she live to see another day? Well, this is just an abbrv. version of the actual story, I guess I'll have to post the full story to explain that.

On the actual story starts the same with Roe waking up on the island with no recollection on anything. This time, however, when she fells the first stabbing pain in her neck, she doesn't get up, and that's when she blacks out. Then a few natives on the island (Turns out it's not very deserted at all) find her and heal her. But she's still trapped on the island, and much more troubles are waiting for her. She does happen to run into Jason too, but their reuion is a very strange one at that. To find out more, you'll have to read the full story (Which I guess I'll need to post...)

Also, one last thing. This story, like I said, was made for a writing contest. For the contest I had to create a story that follows the Genre of Horror. I need your opinions. Do you think that it expresses the genre of horror? Or, are you like me who thinks it's more along the lines of mystery and suspense? Love to see your responces!
